my thoughts of mean making machine

Meaning-making Machines
"If there is one indisputable fact about the human condition it is that no community can survive if it is persuaded--or even suspects--that its members are leading meaningless lives in a meaningless universe."--Irving Kristol

My perseption on "Meaning-making Machines" is that no one wants to be called a nobody, everyone wants to have a perpose for living and not die without leaving a mark on earth saying they have lived a great life and have acomplished all that they could have done. I disagree with Ivring Kristol cause to so extense a community can survive whne nobody believes in it up to a surtin amount of time but eventully it will crumble, but it wont be meaningless cause it would have served a perpose and tought us how to comand and be incharge of a country. And that will help rebuild and start a new begining for the comunity and goverment.

Iviring Kristol's "Meaning-making Machines" does relate with Plato's "Socrates Apology," because they both are dealing with life and the meaning of it. Plato's "Socrates Apology" talks about how every one has a meaning and perpose for living, when Iviring says the nobody wants to be meaningless.

  1. I dissagree with your position that Kristol is wrong about a community not being able to survive if its members are leading meaningless lives. Governments are created by people so they can conduct their lives with order. If people believe life has no meaning Government will not survive, Chaos will rule.
